Core Members

We are the face of BYMC, in a nutshell. We play, direct or host each and every concert. We also participate in and organize various activites in order to fundraise for our chosen charities. 

Eujin Kim
 

The founder of BYMC, Eujin is 16 years old and plays the violin. She began playing violin when she was six years old. Eujin attends Brookline High School.

 

Previously, Eujin studied under Mr. Bo Youp Hwang for 4 years. Currently, Eujin is a student of Mr. Andrew Kohji Taylor and a member of the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra. She likes to read and play violin, especially when she feels that she can help others through her music. 

Haley Kwoun

 

A 9th grader at the Winsor School in Boston, Haley is currently studying cello with Laura Blustein at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School. She is one of the youngest members of the NEC Youth Philharmonic Orchestra and also participates in their chamber music program. Haley performed with the Junior Reparatory Orchestra at NEC Jordan Hall as a winner of the NEC Concerto Competition in 2014. She also won first place at the Roman Totenberg Young Musician String Competition in 2013. Haley competed in the American Protégé Romantic Music Competition and performed at Carnegie Hall this past spring. Most recently, Haley won first place at the Arlington Young Artist Competition and second place at the Carol Vasconcellos Youth Concerto Competition hosted by the Brockton Symphony Orchestra. She is an advocate for community service, and is a core member of the Boston Youth Music Charity. Haley is passionate about crew, guitar - among other instruments, and squash. 

Austin Kwoun
 

A junior at the Belmont Hill School, Austin began playing violin at the age of seven and has been studying with Ms. Jin Kyung Joen for the past seven years at the New England Conservatory (NEC) Preparatory School.  Austin is currently the concertmaster of NEC’s Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as a member of the Belmont Hill School Chamber Society and Orchestra.  Recently, Austin came in first place in Category D (Ages 17+) of NEC Prep's concerto competition.  He finished second at the Boston Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition in 2016.  Austin has also participated in several other competitions, winning first place at the 2015 Wellesley Symphony Orchestra Young Soloist Competition, the 2015 NEC Preparatory School Concerto Competition, the 2015 MMTA Bay State String Competition, the 2014 New England Philharmonic Young Artist Competition, the 2014 Brockton Symphony Feinberg Competition, the 2013 Ellen Huff Powers Young Artist Competition, the 2013 Roman Totenberg Young Musician String Competition, as well as second place finishes at the 2014 Waltham Philharmonic Concerto Competition and the 2013 American Protégé International Romantic Music Competition, and he received the Conductor’s Choice award at the 2013 Lowell Philharmonic Orchestra Jeanne Selander Concerto Competition.  Austin has performed, both as a soloist and in a chamber group, at numerous venues, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Jordan Hall, and the Tsai Performance Center.  He has had multiple opportunities to participate in masterclasses with Joseph Lin (Juilliard String Quartet), Tony Woodcock (NEC), Lucy Chapman (NEC), and Mia Chung Yee (Curtis).  Austin is dedicated to community service; he is a co-founder of the Boston Youth Music Charity, which holds semiannual concerts to raise funds for UNICEF and Cradles to Crayons.  He is also a member of From the Top’s Center for Development of Arts Leaders (CDAL). He is a passionate baseball player and fan, and he follows every move of the Boston Red Sox. He is also an avid reader and writer and enjoys squash in his free time.
